Spekaing of consistency of character- look at Dean and Sam. Once you accept that the real underlying theme of the show is: I love (no, not that way) my brother everything - everything- makes sense. I love that I can pop in a DVD and just listen to their emotions and they don't jar at all. Which is, probably, why I can watch that end scene from Heaven and Hell endlessly.
