Meme Lemming: The "5 Questions" Meme...
Playing with the meme because I wanted to answer some questions. There are answers, they are just below the rules. *grin*
The guidelines for this meme are as follows:
1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your current favorite song, your favorite kind of sandwich, or maybe your favorite game. Any remark, meaningless or not.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.
I answered questions from
imbri6
1. You receive a sudden windfall of money with no strings attached, what do you do with: $100, $1000, $10,000, $100,000?
2. Is there a book or movie that really changed your life?
3. What do you think happens when people die? Heaven? Reincarnation? Other?
4. What is your favoritest hobby and why?
5. What event/happening/accomplishment/award/etc in your life are you most proud of?
and questions from
donnickcottage.
1. Do you guys want another child? Or was Myr planned to be the only one.
2. Do you sometimes feel silly, odd, "out of control" with your addiction/love of particular media? Do your friends and relatives? (I'm not asking because I think you're silly, but because I'm interested in how you feel)3. What are your other personal passions besides the above?
4. If you could live anywhere in the world (with the option that you could come back if it was just impossible to be happy there unbeknownst to you in advance) would you be where you are?
5. (Here's a personal question I'd never ask if it weren't for this opportunity. Answer or don't, it's your choice completely, as I do tend to be pretty brash with my inquiries) As you've been here more than once since we've known "of" each other, has it ever occurred to you that we might get together for coffee as you're passing through? Or perhaps is your day so tightly planned that you don't have even 20 minutes to spare. Or (lastly lol) does it just seem not all that interesting a concept.

1. You receive a sudden windfall of money with no strings attached, what do you do with: $100, $1000, $10,000, $100,000?
$100 - Take my family out some place fun. Fancy meal or a day at a water park or some such.
$1000 - Pay of a bill or two. Maybe do the above.
$10,000 - Pay some bills. Put the rest away for Myr's college fund that is sorely lacking.
$100,000 - Buy a house. Since I live where I do, that means I would still have some to put away for Myr's college fund.
2. Is there a book or movie that really changed your life?
I'd have to say no even though there are a lot of books and movies that I really like. I'm also a "theme" person. I gravitate toward "meanings" in even seemingly pointless films (one of my favorites is "The Replacement Killers" for it's themes of redemption and forgiveness"). That said, none of them really "changed" me, as in made me significantly different than I was before. Mostly they provide me with points of view that allow me to philosophize, something I love to do. In a way, I suppose, everything I watch or read have some impact on who I am.
3. What do you think happens when people die? Heaven? Reincarnation? Other?
Heaven. Although, what that is, I can't tell you. I believe that it's love, though. And it's not full of any of the usual problems that people like to throw into heaven -- like who's right or wrong or better or best. I think heaven is all the moments of connection that people have. Whether it's baking a cake or laughing at a movie or holding hands or cheering at a football game. What lives on is all those moments of connection and love. Although, really, I'm hoping that it's much better than that and I just can't conceive of it.
4. What is your favoritest hobby and why?
Writing. Or perhaps, I should say storytelling: doing it, talking about it, analyzing it, breaking it apart and seeing how it really works, philosophizing over it. I don't do it nearly enough of the actual writing but it is still what I like to do best.
5. What event/happening/accomplishment/award/etc in your life are you most proud of?
I would say my 17 years of marriage, but I didn't do that by myself; it is a joint effort. I would say the fact that Myria is such a terrific kid, but I can claim less credit for that. I'd say the accomplishment I'm most proud of is that I'm happy in my life. Things could be better (couldn't they always?), but I'm happy with it. I'm proud of the fact that I can keep a positive outlook on most things. I'm proud that people consider me thoughtful and insightful and caring. While I'm not sure that's always true, however I'm proud that people have said so.

1. Do you guys want another child? Or was Myr planned to be the only one.
We didn't plan it, it just turned out that way. As time has passed I've come to realize that we were lucky to have her. Since I'm now 42, I think its going to stay that way. It's only a passing regret and not one that is strong enough to push for adoption or other measures. Of course, 42 isn't that old and I wouldn't mind starting over, I just don't think it's going to happen.
2. Do you sometimes feel silly, odd, "out of control" with your addiction/love of particular media? Do your friends and relatives? (I'm not asking because I think you're silly, but because I'm interested in how you feel)
I'm much more restrained in real life than I am online. I tend to judge my audience so that I don't seem too silly. I suppose that's why I do spend so much time talking about it online, I can share without bothering my (non-online) friends. Although I live in a state where people decorate with green and gold, wear cheeseheads and sign their new-borns up for Packer season tickets, so I try to keep that in mind when the 'weirdness' measure is used. I do, occasionally, worry about myself when I begin to obsess over a show I just got on DVD and tend to watch the show over and over, but then I put it away and turn off the TV for a couple of days and I feel more in control. My personality tends to run toward the obsessive, so I try to monitor that.
3. What are your other personal passions besides the above?
You can reference the whole storytelling/theme thing up in question 4 from Imbri6. I also like spending time with my family doing anything -- or nothing. I like science fiction cons. But then I like trapping conventions, too. I think a problem I have is that I like doing just about anything that I can have fun doing. If I'm with people who are passionate about what they are doing, I love to share in that passion. I'm easy that way.
4. If you could live anywhere in the world (with the option that you could come back if it was just impossible to be happy there unbeknownst to you in advance) would you be where you are?
Yes. Or rather, I think so. I like it here. I like the change of seasons. I love the greenness of it all. I love the small town, even with all it's problems. The only thing I would change is that I would like to have the ability to spend a weekend or four in Chicago or Minneapolis to do the museums and such. I think it's a trade off I make in order to have eagles and black bear and wolves in my backyard.
I'm not sure if "tightly planned" is the right term, however where cons are concerned "immersed" is probably an accurate description. While that's a good excuse, I am aware it is still just an excuse. Honestly? I'm leery of ruining any good impression you have of me by actually having you meet me in person. That said, I would like to do so, some non-con weekend when I wouldn't be on a schedule to get back and do something by a certain time. That's not a brush off, really. We are planning a non-con trip over to Minneapolis some time this winter. I may be able to muster up the courage to get together then.

1) What would you consider a perfect day/night out (not necessarily a date)?
2) What is the impetus for you when you write fanfic?
3) If you had a $100 to spend on something completely foolish, what would it be?
4) If you were offered a chance to look into future but were not able to change what you see, would you do so?
5) What is one show that you thought you would really like, but ended up hating?
