Fall...

I am currently putting names on individual colored pencils.

And crayons.

And markers.

School must be starting.

Did you have to bring kleenex, paper towels and anti-biotic soap to school as standard supplies when you were a kid? I don't really mind supplying it, but I don't recall having to bring it as a kid.

My school requests a disposable camera. I really hate that because they take such lousy pics.

Oooh! Memories!!!

I remember having to bring an SOS pad to clean off the desks.

I can't recall whether that was at the beginning or end of the school year, tho. I suspect it may have changed over the years.

I also remember having to have a cat litter box, because I was to put all my supplies into said cat litter box and slide it in and out of my desks in the various rooms. I had no idea those drawers WERE cat litter boxes, for the longest time.

I always had kleenex, but I don't recall it being required by anyone. Just me and my allergies requiring it.

I remember having to clean the rooms but not providing the supplies to do so.

I remember that my mom always hung a roll of toilet paper in her room for the kids to use as kleenex because she couldn't afford to supply the real thing.

A plastic bag with a side zipper; inside, a plastic ruler, a protractor, 2 pencils, one rectangular eraser, fountain pen and 2 refills.
That and a spiral notebook or other lined paper, and I was set. I coulda used the kleenex though. Our uniform shirts were short sleeved.....

The plastic bag with a zipper has been replaced by a "pencil box".

And, with the larger assortment of crayons, colored pencils and markers available today, it's a large box indeed.

I'm not sure how much of supplies that that were ever supplied by the school. I remember that my mom never had enough kleenex and she reverted to hanging a roll of toilet paper in her room for the kids to use.

And if you ever want to scare yourself, check out the budget for a school. It's terrifying how much money gets spent on things other than classroom basics -- and that includes basic teacher salaries.
