Hello, Winter. Wondered when you were going to show up.

It's not supposed to get above zero for the next day or so. It's not going to get ridiculously cold, nothing below 20 below or so, but the wind is wicked and that's what will hurt you.

*shudder* The west side of the house (the one that my bedroom is on) doesn't want to warm up. You can feel the cold air pushing through the panes of glass.

The good news is that our cars are out of the wind. Not in a garage, mind, but not in the wind. They shouldn't have a problem starting until it's a good 30 to 40 below. But I always end up running the car for ten minutes before I leave and taking the long way to close places, just so that I move the engine temp gauge out of the cold range.

So, old man winter was late this year, but he got here. We're not looking for any temps above zero by Tuesday and there's nothing above freezing for the next week. Oh, yeah. brrrrrrrr.

In our lovely new house we have a ceramic/glass top stove with amatching microwave above it. The mic also acts as a range fan, vented to what I've learned is a slatted opening on the roof. Lucky for us, the vent cover seems to have been designed to work on the vertical plane, and as it's on the nearly horizontal, the happy little slats wave in the wind as if Brett Favre fans at a Packer game.

We had icicles hanging down from the interior roof of the microwave this morning. Luckily, the steam from my nuked oatmeal melted the little stagtites, so there will be no accidental back of the hand piercing.
