Meme Lemming: 8 Facts

Here's the rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people.

I once did a "100 things" to know about me meme (fifty here and fifty more here). These weren't on there.

1. I can 't do anything short. This is supposed to be "facts/habits" and most of them turned out to be bits of personally philosophy. This is often how things go with me.

2. I'm currently working on my old apple iBook (clamshell, blue) that is over 10 years old. It only has a 6 gb hard drive and I am lucky to be running OSX 10.1 on it; I will never be able to upgrade as the hardware won't support it. I love my iBook as it is sturdy and wireless and as reliable as an old friend, even if it has problems surfing the web. My other computer is an iMac that is at least 5 years old and is running OSX 10.3. It can't be updated. I would love to replace the iMac with a spiffy new Mac, but my daughter needs a new laptop (anyone have a basic laptop that can run XP that they want to sell cheap?) and my husband's Mac is showing it's age (it's also close to 10, but it is a PowerMac that can run the latest software). I don't see me getting a new computer anytime soon. Not that great of a loss, I suppose, as I can do most of the things I want to on the computers I have.

3. I'm extremely insecure in my work. Actually, I'm an insecure person in most of my life. Which is why I chose not to be overly introspective, it always leads to depressing, insecure thoughts. The insecurity is just more obvious when it comes to work. I know I do good work, I'm reasonably talented and fairly intelligent, even if I miss the obvious occasionally. I tend to come at problems sideways, which can be both a blessing and a curse. But in the end, I'm always sure that I'm not doing a good enough job, I'm not doing it fast enough, I obsess over things that don't matter and am more flash than substance. I'm sure that I'm one call to the office away from getting canned. (Although I will grant that some of that insecurity comes from being unemployed for as long as I was and from so desperately needing to stay employed).

4. I'm a lousy housekeeping. I dislike cleaning. I hate having to spend my hard earned money on cleaning supplies that I will just have to use doing something I dislike. I realize this is stupid. I know that hating cleaning is a stupid as hating to breath or sleep or buy groceries. It has to be done and if I would just do it, it wouldn't be such an odious task. But I just can't make myself do it. I doesn't help that both Wil and Myr feel the same way.

5. Two songs I like at the moment are not work safe: She Hates Me by Puddle of Mudd and The Bad Touch by The Bloodhound Gang. If you would ask most people if I would like songs with refrains of "She fuckin' hates me" or "Let's do it like they do it on the Discovery Channel", they would have said no. But they are catchy (even if I won't sing along with them in a public setting). And every once in a while you need to like things outside your normal comfort zone; it's good to be diverse.

6. I don’t play games like “Truth or Dare” or “Scruples”. I am a very private person – which means I keep private things private and I respect the rights of others to keep private things private. I firmly believe that the theory that "the government is our greatest threat to privacy" is a straw dog that too many people fall for. The biggest threat to privacy is that most people don't exercise discretion in their own lives and, worse, don't grant privacy to person standing next to them. If you spread gossip or pass on scandalous pictures or exchange titillating stories or spy on your neighbors when they leave their shades up – you have no right to expect privacy in your own life, not even from the government. If you believe that you can to ignore someone else's right to privacy because they may engage in a behavior you don't agree with or because you want to make yourself feel better/superior or because you want to "improve" that other person, you are wrong. If you are reading my LJ expecting tales of any great sex I may have had lately or any potentially outrageous stories of dubious morality that I may have engaged in, you won't get it. Sorry. Any bodies I have buried in my life have been cut into small pieces and I will never tell where I have hidden them. Hell, I won't even admit they exist.

7. We have way too many chipmunks living around our house. I am planning on eliminating them. In the past couple of years, when there was only a pair, it was fine. Now there are at least six of them. They are cute and fuzzy, but destructive as hell and are burrowing into the foundation. I would shoot them (because I'm a fair shoot with a .22), but I live in town and have no decent line of fire. I'm leaning toward getting rattraps if I can set them up as not to accidentally kill other creatures. I categorically refuse to use poison. I may end up live trapping them, even though I not worried about killing them and hate the thought of having to drive the several miles to release them, but it's a sure way of only getting rid of the chippies.

8. My favorite coffee (at the moment) is Mexican Altura and my favorite tea is Earl Grey. (Look: a random fact, just like the meme asked for.)

I'm not going to tag anyone, because I don't do that. It's pushier than I like to be. (I suppose that could be a ninth random fact, but I'm not numbering it).

If you feel like doing it, post away. I'll read your responses.

I want to see the fifty but they're dead links. Ya don't suppose you decided to be private do ya, and just got too lazy to delete the part about linking to other little known facts about you?!?!? :p

Hee! Private and lazy -- an evil combination!

Actually, I typed it up on Word and the autocorrect does evil things to the coding for LJ.

It's fixed.

It's funny I read and responded to these 6 years ago lol. I hadn't remembered any of them. A wonderful collection of anecdotes lass, thanks so much for reacquainting me with them.

I don't remember some of them and I wrote them. What does that say about me?
