Little things...
May. 22nd, 2004 08:03 pmFor Christmas, my daughter (with my mom's help) made me a weekly calendar with the computer. It's small -- half a piece of paper, with a week on each listing the days and giving me a blank to write stuff on. Each week is numbered (we are just finishing week Twenty-one, FYI) and it lists holidays and birthdays so that I will know that.
The wonderful thing about it is that she wrote a little line or note on each week for me. This week it says: "Sam is brave. So are you", in pencil, behind it, she wrote "Yep". Week Fourteen had a star drawn on it and a sticker of the sun and it said "You are my sunshine and my shining star", Week Fifteen was "When you dotted all the I's and crossed all the T's, you may do just as you please" and Week Nine said "Thor love you. Please pet him."
When I get to week Thirty-four it will read "When you fall just rest there awhile. THen get up and start over" and the following one "With every gray hair you get, you look a little wiser." This one is accompanied with three pictures labeled "you" the first one (one black hair) saying "young", the next with one gray hair saying "Getting there" and finally one with all gray labeled "very, very wise".
I love week Thirty-nine: "The trees are leafing. Red and yellow. Green is fleeting."
Green is fleeting. Sounds like the title of a good book.
Of all the things I can list that is wrong with the way I live my life, and all the things I'd like to change and all the problems I obsess over, I need to remember how blessed I am and that, as Week Twenty-four says: "We all have dry spells -- so get out the sprinkler".
