I love Ice Cream sandwiches, we usually have a box of them in the freezer. It's a great snack on a hot day.
JennJenn! You have Canadian Heritage, don't you? Well Happy Canadian Heritage day. My heritage comes, almost exclusively from Prussia. Heh. 3/4 of my grandparents came from a country that was chopped up into little tiny pieces after the two world wars. For a short and sweet summary of Prussia you can go to A Brief History of Prussia or you can do the indepth version by going to Prussia Online. I wonder if there is a heritage day for people from countries that no longer exist. I betcha there are a lot of them...
Dinosaurs -- you know, I think its totally unfair that dinosaurs are so much more cool now. They come in all sorts of colors. They come with feathers. They come so much smarter. Wen I was a kid, all dinosaurs were naked, grey and dumb! And did you know that all you have to have is one bone that doesn't match any other, already discovered dino bone and you have "discovered" a new dinosaurs! How cool is that. Plus, when you "discover" a dinosaur, you got to design it. Had I known that, I may have been a paleontologist.
When my mom was still teaching she would have her sixth graders do a "dino unit" at the end of the year. It was interesting enough to hold the kids attention in the warming weather, independent enough to enable the kids to work without constant supervision and comprehensive enough to incorporate science, language arts, math and art. She had this one really cool dinosaur book that she had the kids get the information from. Well, the book belonged to the school. If I remember correctly, when I looked into getting a copy for myself, it cost over a hundred bucks. Still, it was a cool book.
