Prayer

With the school year underway, we're back to doing a morning prayer.

This was the one I wrote for today:

The beginning of any school year is filled with promise. A new grade, a new year, a new opportunity, another chance. School supplies echo this: Freshly sharpened pencils, unblemished erasers, ink-filled pens, shiny binders, and unworn backpacks.

The beginning of the school years is just that new chance to start again. All the mistakes from last year are gone just like the battered erasers that we used to try and fix them. We can put all of that behind us and start again: with a new class, clean white boards and snappy new name tags.

But it's important to remember that we don't have to wait until a new school year. With God, each day can be a new beginning. He offers us forgiveness each time we ask for it. Old mistakes don't have to follow us from day to day any more than past mistakes need to follow a student from grade to grade. We need to remember to start each day with those freshly-sharpened pencils, unblemished erasers and unworn backpacks. Each day is a new beginning filled with promise.
