Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote: Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."

Now as poetic as that is and with all due respect for Mr. Hawthorne, that's not exactly right. While pursuing a butterfly may indeed make them fly away, just sitting and waiting for it to find you isn't really going to work either. Several years ago my husband and I were out doing yard work. After a while we decided to stop and take a break. Enjoy our hard work. As soon as we sat down, my husband started to attract butterflies. They just loved him.

It turns out that butterflies are attracted to sweat.

So, you can't just sit around and wait for the butterfly of happiness to land on you, you have to go out and work, break out into a sweat. Not from chasing it, mind you, but in doing something -- anything -- the requires you to work. Then, after you've worked -- worked hard -- and you sit down to rest and enjoy your work, that's when you'll find happiness.

Ecclesiastes 5:19 - Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work-this is a gift of God.

Notes: Sorry to all those who just said so many nice things about my SG-1 fic, it's in my old fanfic grounds the A-Team. It's silly and a little piece in honor of Beta Appreciation Day that's coming up on Wednesday and to answer the challenge to use the (totally ridiculous) line: "That's fascinating." He said, sounding fascinated.

It was a dark and stormy night when, suddenly, a shot rang out )
