A Parent's Thanksgiving Prayer

Lord, thank you for this sink of dirty dishes;
we have plenty of food to eat.
Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry;
we have plenty of nice clothes to wear.
And I would like to thank you, Lord,
for those unmade beds; they were so warm and comfortable last night.
I know that many have no bed.
My thanks to you, Lord, for this bathroom,
complete with all the splattered mirrors, soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory;
they are so convenient.
Thank you for this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs defrosting so badly;
it has served us faithfully for many years.
It is full of cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals.
Thank you, Lord, for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today.
It has baked so many things over the years.
The whole family is grateful for that tall grass that needs mowing,
the lawn that needs raking; we all enjoy the yard.
Thank you, Lord, even for that slamming screen door.
My kids are healthy and able to run and play.
Lord, the presence of all these chores awaiting me says
You have richly blessed my family.
I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully.

You Are the Investigator

You're independent - and a logical analytical thinker.

You love learning and ideas... and know things no one else does.

Bored by small talk, you refuse to participate in boring conversations.

You are open minded. A visionary. You understand the world and may change it.

Not sure what it means, but it's cute.

I finished it.

Ok. It needs some revision and fine tuning, but it's done.

I have never written a book proposal before and, in that brutal brand of honesty that I reserve for my own work, it ain't got a snowball's chance in hell of making it past the first read.

But I finished it. A complete story. Beginning, middle, end. It needs a little work on the theme through line and I need to tweak a few scenes -- but that should be done by tonight.

I don't have the feeling of completion I was looking forward to having... But that may change once I really do finish it.

In all honesty, I alternate between thinking that it's pretty good and believing it's total crap.

I hate that. Especially since the more cynical view seems to be the one I think more often.

It will need to be betaed a couple of times--

JennJenn? Can I rely on you to be your usual wonderful beta self? Mean, ornery and hard on problematic commas and messed up tenses?

Kinda goes with the other one I took.

You are a Technologist. You may not have any magic
--but you either don't want or need it. Whether
you are a spear-throwing Barbarian, an Imperial
Mechanist or even a humble Tailor you build
what you need, rely on your own strength and
follow your own path. You are happy doing your
own thing and thinking your own way. You are
extremely self-reliant and have a hard time
trusting others.

I don't like the label, really. But the specifics fit.

I suppose faith isn't something counted in this test.
