It was a great day today!

It was my mom's birthday, so after church we headed out to her house to help make her birthday meal. Now we have a small family. It's just my brother and me and we each have only one kid. Still, that makes ten between the folks and our families. Then add in my mom's sister, my dad's sister and her husband, and a friend of my nieces and we had a grand total of 14.

We made a couple of salads, a couple of cakes, a nifty potato dish and grilled pork chops. It was wonderful. We cooked, we chatted, we went to my brother's place and swam in his pool. That was also wonderful.

Highlights of the day:

Both my brother and I got my mom the same birthday gift -- season one of Murder, She Wrote. She's planning on taking one back and getting season two of Columbo. Heh. She was greatly amused.

Quote:
---Brother: How old are you, again?
---Mom: Sixty-four. And my first pool party!

Quote (while we were playing Marco Polo in the pool):
---Sister-In-Law: Wow, you really do hear differently with your eyes closed.
---Brother: Yeah. With your eyes closed you hear through your nose.

Pork chops should only be made on the grill.

Myr, who didn't buy a gift for my mom, took the morning to go down to the basement and raid the sewing supplies. In less than two hours she made a cloth hanging, with cutout figures fused to the background which was then sewn to another cloth panel with a bit of stuffing to make it stand out. She then took puff paint and added details to the figures. It's beautiful. She is so very creative.

It was a great day.
