Myr -- cool kid again
Nov. 30th, 2005 10:05 pmMyr was accepted to the "Lincoln County Teen Court". Teen Court is a legal option for first time teen offenders. You can read about it here.
A short clip: Teen court offers eligible youth an alternative to the Juvenile Court system. Offenders receive a sentence from their peers rather than a judge. This gives the youth offenders an opportunity to take responsibility for their actions. It provides positive peer pressure with community based consequences.
There are also two new articles on it here and here.
She had to apply for the program, write a little resume and reason for wanting to be part of it. She will get two days of training for the process.
It says in the letter she received: You are not only given this responsibility but the respect that goes hand in hand with it. You need to understand that we are working towards making our community a better place by helping youth learn to make proper decisions, yet not all will benefit from this program. Do not get discouraged; continue in your role as a Teen Court volunteer and a leader in you school.
She loves this stuff and it's just starting. It will be interesting to see how she handles it all. As thrilled as I am about her getting this, I'm a little apprehensive about the whole "This-is-real-life" aspect. Must just be the Mom in me. Fret, worry, support. Gads.
Still is very cool though. And she will be good at it. I guess it's also: Fret, worry, support and admire, huh?
