Wow... we made national news
May. 9th, 2007 08:25 amOne of the gas stations in town has a discount card that was sold to support local youth sports that give $0.03 off a gallon and the station also gives a $.02 off a gallon to senior citizens. Well, it seems that this is a violation of the Wisconsin law that says all gas must be marked up 9.2% over wholesale. This was picked up by the AP and is making it's way onto national news.
The part that gets me is the 9.2% mandatory mark up. That means if I buy gas at $2.00 a gallon, $0.18 of that is markup. At $3.12 a gallon (which is what we have now), that's $.30 of that is markup. The next time some gas station in WI complains that they are losing money because they are selling the gas for only a couple of cents over wholesale, I think I'll have to to slap them.
