Went to see The Bourne Ultimatum tonight. Actually I went to see it again tonight because I had seen it once already last week when my family was on vacation without me. (Insert pity party here).
I love Bourne. That almost should go without saying, but I'll say it anyhow. It was very '24' in feel (and I mean that in the best possible way) and you can't go wrong with that.
What surprised me was that they had two very strong female characters in the show. What I loved best about them was they had none of the (stereo)typical, movie-cliche women traits. They didn't try to seduce their way into or out of any situations. They dressed professionally. They were smart. They took advantage of the fact that most men would underestimate them because they were women. They didn't help Bourne because they were in love with him or wanted to sleep with him. They did what they did because it was the right thing to do. They also weren't super-women and they never acted "like men". They couldn't fight any better than an average person. They survived and helped Bourne survive through guts, brains and willpower.
They were, in other words, fully rounded and fascinating characters.
They go on my rather short list of female characters I wouldn't mind being. I still need a "warrior woman" icon (preferably with Zoe from Firefly because, you know, she is the best).
