Long weekend
Jun. 30th, 2008 11:33 pmYes, I know that today was Monday and not part of the weekend at all, but since it took until today to finish the project I had planned for the weekend, I'm counting it.
Myr wanted a costume for this upcoming con and has wanted on for several years. I kept saying "No problem, we can do it, but we have to start early." Needless to say, "early" never came. This year, a week ago, Myr stressed at me that she would never get a costume and I, belatedly, realized that she could be right. So I decided that I would whip up a little costume the weekend before the con.
Yeah.
Anyhow, starting Friday at 4 pm and ending tonight at 9 pm I costumed. Keep in mind that I did work today, so sewing took place for only three hours tonight. But I did finish all four pieces of Myr's costume: harem-type pants, overskirt, shirt with very large sleeves and (most involved of all) bodice. I think it looks pretty good. Myr did a great deal of work on it herself and it really was a bonus that my mom has two good quality sewing machines and a serger.
I will try to get some pictures of it to put up here. Myr doesn't want me to take pictures of her in the costume, but I'll see if I can get it put on the dress form and put that up.
Oh. The weekend also included 5 hours spent at a family reunion, a movie with the family (Wall-E, wonderful!) and a cookout and evening spent watching the bats circle a small campfire.
I didn't get any writing down, which sucks more than I can say, but Myr is happy and that is worth the sacrifice.
However I have a long day tomorrow that involves an all day meeting involving creation of a "vision statement" for the UW cooperative extension and a writer's group that I'm not prepared for -- only I may not be able to make it to my writer's group. Kind of a lose-lose situation there because I don't see any other writing time in my near future. I might as well just give up pretending I will get any writing done that's worth turning in. Or any writing done AT ALL.
Ah. I'm feeling cynical. Time for sleep. Morning is always perkier than midnight.
The point of the post was to say that I did much great and good work this weekend. That's how I shall try to leave it.
