Supernatural Obsession
Sep. 29th, 2009 04:57 pmShortly after the season of Supernatural aired, thought I'd give it a try, so I settled in to watch. We made it to the episode with the completely creepy scarecrow god, at which point Myr informed me that the show was just too spooky to watch. As she was only 11 at the time, I think that was a good decision.
( Short version: I'm watching it now )
Not having the money to go out and buy all the seasons of Supernatural, I checked at my local video store and discovered that they have all the seasons. *glee* Even more *glee* is knowing that I can rent an entire season for five days for only $3. Actually, I got the first season free and the second season at half price because I haven't rented anything in a while. I officially love my video store.
So I've been playing catch up. Because Season one was out for two weeks, I actually watched season two before season one, but it's not breaking my brain too much.
I would say that the worst part of doing it this way is that I can't fangirl over the episodes with anyone because everyone has moved one, but I'm still slightly afraid of the SPN fandom. And, as you all know, I'm always somewhat sideways when it comes to fangirling.
Things I have to share (keeping in mind that I actually haven't seen all the eps):

Things I have to share (keeping in mind that I actually haven't seen all the eps):
- The show is, IMHO, extremely psychologically accurate in how it portrays the characters. These are characters I know and recognize. Characters I love.
- Both actors are completely adorable -- especially when they are doing little things (in character) while the focus is on other characters.
- Dean is very often terrified of all the things he hunts. Sam considers the creatures dangerous and creepy, but Dean is actually afraid of them.
- Sam changes the most over the series. Not only does he look different from S1 to S5, he actually moves differently. I would like to know if that is a conscious choice on the actor's part or just a growing familiarity with the things on show that comes over the years.
- I have to remind myself that I need sleep because I would otherwise do nothing but catch up on this show.
- Dean is one of the most insecure people on the face of the earth and while every single thing that ever attacked, fought or tortured him sees that immediately, none of his friends or family do.
- I love the fact that often what is best for the individual character is at odds with what is best for the other characters or for the common good.
- The music on this show is awesome cakes. As is the editing when music is involved.
- My very favorite musical moment/scene – the end of “Nightshifter” The guys are making their escape from the bank in SWAT outfits and “Renegade” by Styx plays over the top. It rocks.
- More than anything else, I want to write a crossover fic where Dean meets Garcia from Criminal Minds and they bond over cars.
- A lot of Supernatural fandom still frightens me.
