Last night I had the world's greatest parent teacher conference. Myr is doing good in... everything. That's really not surprising as she is a good kid and is much smarter than I am. Take, for example, that she was able to learn the location of all the countries of Europe in an hour and retain that knowledge.

Her school is the Prairie River Middle School (PRMS, for short) and they work on a trimester schedule with six grading periods. This was the end of the first one. They didn't give grades for this period because, realistically speaking, they've only had four week of gradable teaching -- what with the whole intro to the middle school and the way things are at the beginning of a year.

In order to find out how your student is doing, you had to go and talk to each teacher. I really like that, actually.

So, anyhow, all the teachers love her. She works hard in all the classes. She doesn't cause problems. She doesn't complain when things don't go her way. She does all her work. She grasps concepts immediately. She is diligent and kind and thoughtful.

I am unbelievably lucky.

In addition, she is a really, really cool person.

Her home room teacher did say this about her: She is her own person, isn't she? She listens to everything, then decides for herself what to do.

He's absolutely right about that.

She's also the type of person who you either love or hate. There is really no middle ground with the kid. She's okay with that, usually. It goes along with the whole "She is her own person" thing. In that respect, she's a lot like me. Poor kid.

But like I said:

Lucky, lucky me!

You have the best kid. I'm so happy for you--and to know her.

I hope mine even approach yours.

Passed along, Russ!

She says "Love you!"

Thanks.

And your two cuties are wonderful, with the parents they have they couldn't possibly be anything but great.

As for me, if I'd be the pessimistic type, I'd be waiting for the proverbial "other shoe" to drop. But I'm an annoyingly optimistic Pollyanna-type and I'm going to firmly believe that there is only one shoe.

Sure, great folks can parent awful kids. *sigh* Especially when they're not as involved as they should be, which I know I'm not. I'm just too selfish, and too...bad at this. *sigh*

And I always am waiting for the other shoe to drop. The fact that you're able not to believe in the other shoe is one of the reasons you're my hero.
