Yikes. For all the work I've been doing, I haven't managed to update this decently at all. I haven't managed to do any writing either.

On the other hand, I have organized my life slightly. With the arrival of spring and the getting rid of the never-will-end cold, I have started to put some things in order. Heh. Details are unimportant (and I doubt I would tell you even if they were, because of that whole 'I don't share well thing') but I'll just say that I'm not nearly together as I pretend to be. But I'm making progress. I think. Well, I'm just going to act like I'm making progress on the off chance that I'm right. *grin*

Randomness:

I find the Google news search to be very amusing and somewhat scary. I hesitate to recommend it as a reliable news source to my students (elementary and middle school) because so many of the news sources are opinion sources. I know that all news sources are influenced by the opinions and purpose of the writers/owners/audience, but some of these, WOW. I didn't think that any publication that openly sited the 'Zionist conspiracy to perpetuate the myth of the Holocaust' as proof of Hollywood's extremist right-wing leanings, could actually be considered news. I love the Internet and the free access to information but at the same time I know that my student's haven't the life or educational experience to judge the quality or reliability of these 'news' sources.

I hit a lot of different websites devoted to television shows I like. It's just a quick scan to see what is up. I also tend to do these things in streaks, so right now 24 is my obsession of choice. The one thing I like about 24 is that there is no real 'ship' in the show and that cuts down immensely on the amount of infighting and fanwars that take place. No one ever stakes out that 'OMG, you're a freak for liking/not liking my OTP' territory. Of course, we do tend to wander onto real life politics occasionally, but most people keep that civil and short.

There is one site I go to called 24 HQ. I never really paid it that much mind because it's not that active of a site and, in reality, the person writing it seemed to be an odd combination of true fan, squeeing fangirl and clueless observer. She would post a spoiler months in advance that was right, but then she misspells the main bad guys name. I never know how much faith to put in what she writes because some of it just rings false, for some reason.

Turns out that this site is supposedly a Fox sponsored blog. The theory is that the person/people writing it work for Fox and is doing the blog as part of the promotion of 24. While that explains the weirdness of the posts, because this person is just pretending to this fan, it leaves me wondering how lame is that? I don't mean the fact that the show sponsored the blog, heck, I love that sort of thing. Behind the scenes and details are very cool. I don't even care that this is done on the q.t., it's not like it really matters when there's not real communication between people here, just a blog of information. It would make a difference if the person was establishing relationships using a false persona, but I don't see that happening.

No, if it's true, what's lame is the blog itself. There's no real information. No real discussion. Hell, there's not even promotion going on. If they were trying to sell the show, sell it. Gush about it, dissect it, complain about it, provide links, get quotes from people that no one else has seen. Speculate and build excitement. Heck, I've spent more time talking about the show than that blog has, and most on my flist don't even care about the show.

Now my information could be wrong and this could just be a fan who, like me, doesn't have the time to spend on her obsession that she would like. I'll buy that and apologize, but if not... Good grief, you would think that Fox could do a better job.

Spring! Thunder and lightening on the way. YAY. Life is good. We need a good thunder storm to break up the frost in the ground. I should have done some yard work this past weekend, but house work needed to get done first. Besides, even with the near 60 degree weather we've had, there are bits of snow/ice banks left and you get spots of mud right next to frozen ground. Not the best for even simple things like raking grass.

We're heading down to Madison this weekend for Oddcon/Filmcon. Myr isn't going with us because she is heading over to Oshkosh to go to a party. She's growing up and I'm not sure I really like that. Still, as I told her, every age that she's been at has been the perfect age. You have to adjust in life or you end up being disappointed all the time. There are things that we did when she was two that we never will be able to do again and there are things that we can do now that she's turning twelve that we will only be able to do now. You take each age as it comes and you enjoy that age and when it's done you move on. Don't linger and don't rush, just live.

I know what a thunder and lightning storm is, but what is a thunder and lightening storm?

You know, Ray, if you can't say anything nice...

'cuz I will come down there and hurt you.

The stupid spell check don't pick up things like that, and I really need it to.
