Oh! A fic-meme that I can do! I don't write much -- certainly not as much as I would like -- and for quite a while I really didn't post my fics anywhere. Then I realized the foolishness of that, and got an account at both ff.net and a03. I still use both, mostly because I have no reason to hate either.
The ranking of the fics isn't that surprising, fandoms being what they are. The power of White Collar on ao3 can't be denied! Of these top 10 - 7 are White Collar and 3 are Leverage. Thankfully my 2010 Yuletide entry pulled in enough hits to make the top 10!
10. Ten Gallon Lies The Walking Dead It had something to do with the stupid Stetson. Why, exactly, do people follow Rick? Why does Glenn? I've always been in love with the Cowboy Archetype and why people will follow it, this little piece allowed me to meta on it in fic. It's one of my favorite pieces I've written and I'm glad to see it make the top ten. It's the first of only three non-crossovers on the list.
9. Crazy Leverage/Burn Notice Hardison wondered if crazy had a preferred body type. This little drabble is here only because of the crossed-over characters. It's cute enough but I only posted it because I have such a hard time writing drabbles that when I get a half-way decent one, I feel compelled to share.
8. An Honest Man White Collar Four Times Peter Burke Didn’t Break the Law, and One Time He Did. My first and only try at a "Five times" fic. I'm never sure if I like the style of the fic, so it's hard for me to write. As much as I love Neal, I think Peter's a more interesting character, so this is just a small piece of my love for him. My second non-crossover fic on the list.
7. Secrets Leverage/Eureka Eliot doesn't want to go to into Eureka Many of these fics were written for a challenge that forced me to stay below 1000 words, which makes me dislike some of them because there was a larger story in my head. This is one of them. It's not too bad as a stand-alone though.
6. Break Room Spirits In Plain Sight/White Collar/Psych/Burn Notice It's a rough night for the "A Christmas Carol" Spirits when they visit some of the characters from the USA Network. A pure humor piece that I'm please to see here because it's told from a completely outside POV and is just a hit-and-run on the characters...
5. Serendipity White Collar/Bones All Neal wants to do is tour the Jeffersonian. Peter, Neal and the Jeffersonian staff...
4. Not as Cool White Collar It should surprise no one that Moz has an unusual take on a case. The third and last non-crossover on the list is another White Collar fic. I have no idea why this one rates so high.
3. Rain Check (1468) Criminal Minds/Supernatural An investigation takes Hotch into Harvelle's Roadhouse. I'm somewhat shocked that the only Supernatural fic to make the list, stars only Ellen! Aaron Hotchner and Ellen Harvelle should be in a whole adventure together and someday I may actually get around to writing it, but for now there is only this snippet. I'm thrilled that these two characters manage to come in as my third most popular fic!
2. Unintended Consequences: (1660) White Collar/Criminal Minds Just exactly what does the BAU want with Neal Caffrey? I love that this fic is here, it's one of my favorite pieces I've written. Plus it received my favorite comment ever when a reviewer called it "competence porn". It's also the only stand-alone fic that has a second part started and sitting on my hard-drive...
1. Coffee Thief: (1812) White Collar/Leverage Peter has an unexpected guest for coffee. I have no idea why this little 500 word fic has so many hits, but it's cute and some fic had to the on the top...
There are three fics that didn't make this list that I feel should have -- only because they are my favorite fics. So I'm tossing them in here just to share:
Necessary Sacrifices Stargate SG1 Col. Jack O'Neill blacks out the base and then promptly disappears. What is Jack planning and what is he willing to sacrifice in order to accomplish that plan? Can the team find Jack before it's too late? What if it's already too late? This 50k+ word fic is the longest I've written, and is the one that I'm most proud of. I think it's a good adventure and the best comment that I've gotten from it is that "it could have been an episode!". Yay for cannon fic!
Nothing to be Scared of Supernatural Dean would never be afraid of anything that walked around the town in broad daylight. He'd never be afraid of anything as mundane as a human teenager. And he'd never, ever be afraid of someone named 'George Grefe'. This 10k fic is set preseries when Dean is in Middle School and was based on a prompt where someone wanted Dean to face a bully. I had a hard time coming up with a plot I found believable, but managed to settle on this. The biggest complaint I get about this fic is that it's not angsty enough, which I take as a compliment.
By the Sword Burn Notice Everything a spy does makes enemies I think this piece is the most character-accurate piece I've written. Plus I managed to tell a good, complete story in 1000 words that has plot and character develpement. Yay, me. Besides I completely adore Michael Westen.
There you go. A fic meme.
I should write more.
