I will always love you is much better when sung by Dolly. I am always astonished by how she never gets any credit for writing it by the casual public.

Both this points are true.

The main reason Dolly's version is better is because when she sings it's about the song and when Whitney sang it it was about the singer. Anytime someone sings it the "Whitney" way it's all about how amazing the singer is and how hard the song is to sing and how beautiful the voice is... Dolly can do all that, but she just sings the song.
