Hail to the King, baby...

Saw this review today for Return of the King. The orginal test is here. But I'm putting it all under a cut tag 'cuz I don't want to lose it and I don't always want to go elsewhere to read things.

I just would love to see the promo.

Although I have to admit that I'm seeing the movies more for the "chick" bits than for the fights. What I love best of about the Lord of the Rings is that Peter Jackson has managed to make an "action movie" that has plot, characterization, themes (beyond the "kill them all and let God sort them out" theme that most action flicks have), motifs and true human emotions. Granted all that was in the book so Tolkien needs to be given the credit for creating it but Jackson kept it in and, in some cases, pumped it up and made it obvious to the general audiance (just look at Boromir).

Isaiah 28:13: The Lord is going to teach you letter by letter, line by line, lesson by lesson

As teachers, our days are broken into segments; careful -- and sometimes painful -- effort is put into making sure that each class, each subject, has its place in the week. Then we spend more time and effort writing out plans to be sure that we teach what the students need to know. We go to work each day armed with these lesson plans, ready to teach "lesson by lesson". To often, however, we are faced with the fact that not all children can learn lesson by lesson. Some have to be taught line by line and some have to be taught letter by letter.

Suddenly, our carefully planned time and lessons can't be followed and we become irritated at -- perhaps even resentful of --those who are making our job even more difficult. At these times, Lord, help us to remember that teaching isn't about lessons, it's about learning. Grant us the strength and patience to deal with those of your children who need to be taught line by line and letter by letter.
