Why, yes, I am talking to myself...
Jan. 24th, 2005 01:27 pmSuch glee.
In my story I'm writing (BreckenHaven) I have my main character talk to himself when he's stressed. Not that unusual.
However, when I have him do it, I have him refer to himself by name. For example, my main character, Bishop, is lost and being chased in a strange woods:
The darkness rustled around him in the breeze and he hunched back, closer to the tree, imagining monsters lurked out there, somewhere. "You're losing it, Bish, you know that." He spoke aloud, taking small comfort in the sound of his voice.
Now in the writer's group that I belong to, the one gal absolutely hates that I do that. She insists that no one refers to themselves by name even if they would be nuts enough to talk out loud to themselves. Now, I restrained myself from pointing out that I do, because, you know, I'm sure she thinks I'm weird enough as it is.
But I've noticed that in SG1 and 24, both main characters do refer to themselves like that when they are talking.
So, I'm not crazy.
Unless, of course, using fictional characters to justify possibly insane behavior is crazy.
....
Yeah. Let's not go there.
