Self-pity is more than a waste of time, it is a throw-back to an adolescent angst indulgence that does more to drive people away than to actually help the situation. You make your choices and, good or bad, you deal with them. The situation isn't they way you would like it to be? Well, too bad. (Obviously pity of any sort isn't my strong suit). Unless you live in a vacuum, the situation is never completely under your control. And unless you are some sort of egocentric SOB you have to take other people's feelings and desires into consideration. Angst is the ultimate in narcissistic behavior.

But there are times... times when it would be really nice to take that big sledgehammer of self-indulgence and beat people about the head and face. Point out one or two facts that they seem to be overlooking. Times when you would like to lay your lists of "This is what I do" and "This is what I give up" and "This is what I get in return" next to the other guys lists and point out that, HEY, what do you know, they aren’t exactly even.

...

Only I keep coming back to that first statement. And I hate angst. Even when I'm the one angsting. Or should I say, especially when I'm the one angsting. And comparing lists never works 'cuz all those other guys have more on their lists than you give them credit for.

So. Instead, I'll write cryptic LJ posts. No details will be forthcoming.

Thank you for reading.

I've got a couple of white coats. Would you like a white coat? We could infiltrate the guys' white coat club and HEAR THEIR SECRET PLANS!!!!

Gee golly winkies! I'd respond if I weren't so angst ridden, but then you'd have nothing to read on my page....come to think of it....

No no no....

I do angst whenever I decided to complain on line rather than communicate to the person or persons who I should be dealing with. Really bad teenaged fanfic writers do angst when they write about characters who merely obsess over their problems rather than having the characters actually do something about it.

You do really good, honest, albeit depressing poetry. I would never dream of calling your work angst. It's much to good for that.

'Twas just a gentle poke to a random reading lass, I assumed no pointing finger. But I must admit while I laugh aloud seldom due to some twisted, childhood 'don't let yr guard down' sorta thing, your comment drove me to do just that:) I DO have a happy tale or two; perhaps you didn't dig deep enough:p

I was hoping that was the case, but on LJ you can't be too sure. I've offended with less.

As for happy tales... well, I have to admit a fondness for the dark and tortured poetry. I can't write it, but I love to read it. So I'm sure my impressions are skewed by that particular obsession...

I concur for the most part. I do find my ramblings on death and woe far more interesting than those of a kissy/huggy bent; though I've penned and/or read a few that were all too familiar and warming. No one should suffer as a fan of both Poe and Robert Frost in the same lifetime I fear. If ever there was cause for shizophrenia beyond mere genes, I believe I've stumbled on it.

Oh, and I can't wait for Lotr either:) That's likely what got me to write a fantasy tale for nano rather than some tripe on pizzas and those who eat them
