I'm lousy at visualizing my characters. I have a very hard time coming up with a picture of what my characters look like. I mean, I know the basics. How tall, color of hair and eyes and types of clothes . But that's it really.

In the most recent story I'm writing, I decided that I needed a better visual concept of the characters. Rather than fight through magazines to find pics I like (because I'd have to buy the mags first), I thought it would be best to draw my character. Only I can't draw. I can't do stick figures. And I really didn't have a complete concept of the character and I doubt if I would come up with a good sketch with what was in my mind. Fortunately, Wil is an artist and he can fill in the blanks. Here is Lodi, one of the main characters in the fantasy I'm writing.

Lodi

I think she's cool. He had some different concepts of armor that I think I'll use, but the concept is great. I really like the markings on the face (not sure if they are tattoos or paint) and the earrings. I also like the concept of the gauntlets/gloves he gave her. I'll have to find reasons for them.

*grin*

But that's explanations and plotting. And I love that part.

Now. I need to write.

It's cool to have an artist on a leash...so to speak lol. I know "exactly" what my characters look like as I have seen them all within my lifetime and have only given those I've admired new attributes to play with. But I can't draw a straight line with a ruler and some of my subjects would be aghast if I were to photograph them in costume.

If Aishen knew who she was, it would take some of the life out of the character as one would surely emulate the other to both's detriment; but seeing the woman I patterned my Elven princess on during that rare ocassion our paths cross, convinces me even more of her beauty and gentle nature; the very traits that gave my fantasy her foundation. I do admit to imagining armor and weapons adorning the lass as I wave to her across the mall and in that space I do recognize that "a picture is worth a thousand words."
