I remember, as a child, singing this song at the end of school:

I was going to teach it to my daughter, but I think I need to change a couple of things. In today's world singing about shooting the teacher is a bad thing. Now since Wil had never heard the song, I checked the Internet and found quite a few references of it. Including one that seems to have more acceptable lyrics:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school,
We have tortured every teacher, we have broken every rule!
We have wandered down the halls writing cuss words on the walls,
Us kids are marching on!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Teacher hit me with a ruler,
I bopped her on the bean with a rotten tangerine,
Us kids are marching on!

I think I'll teach her the safer version. Don't need to make problems for her.

We have barbecued the principal and the vice principal too,
The kids are marching on!

Glory, glory, how peculiar!
Teacher hit me with a ruler,
I got behind the door with a loaded .44,
She ain't gonna teach no more!

Often "the vice principal" was replaced with a name; I recall "Sister Jodene" working REALLY well in that verse.

Probably best not to teach THAT one to your daughter.


'course, there's always:

That one was GREAT on buses as we passed over bridges.
