I was going to head to bed at 10. You know, catch up on lack of sleep and all.
Then I see that Stars is playing Cowboy Bebop: The movie.
*sigh*
I love Cowboy Bebop. I love the fact that the title song (for the series) is a jazzy blues. I love that the opening credits is reminiscent of the Wild Wild West opening. I love the fact that they pay such wonderful homage to all the old western cliches without making them seem cliched or dorky. It's anime, so it has some of the typical anime drawbacks, but it's style is a step above typical anime so it's not like its all eyes and boobs. It's clever and it has a whole film noir feeling about it that's hard to explain.
I find anime a tricky thing to like on-line and in groups. I like some anime a lot, but I'm not a fan of the whole genre. That's because I'm not a fan of the art of anime, instead I'm a fan of the stories and the characters. I'm sure it's the writer in me. Plus the fact that I'm almost totally nonvisual. If the look of the character isn't significantly different from the other characters, I'm not gonna notice a difference. See, for me to really like it, the look and style has to be a significant part of the the plot, characterization, theme or atmosphere, there just isn't any reason for me to notice it.
Not being into anime for the "art" knocks me out on a lot conversations with fans. Not being a fan of the "OMG look at the babes and boobs and sex!" I also miss out on even more of the of the conversations. In the end, I like what I like and I really don't care what anyone else thinks. And I'm not gonna watch something I don't like just because the consensus is that it's the "next big thing". Again, ruling me out of most conversations.
*heh*
Once again we have established that Partly does not work or play well with other fans.
That doesn't stop me from loving Cowboy Bebop.
