I've been running across the term "emo" quite often lately. Seeing it enough, in fact, to want to know what it means. So, I went off searching for answers.
Other than "Emo Philips" -- which I don't think this is, it stands for "emo"tional. "Emo"tional punk music.
Now, in the vernacular of all teenagers and punk music, emotional seems to only mean sad, depressed and angsty. We all know that "happy" isn't an emotion, it's a sickness. *grin*
I did run across this test:
take the emo quizcreated by jessi
'cuz, I am so not emo.
Then again, I do see how it can apply to both Faramir and Hamlet. And, as long as emo doesn't have to be pointless or unending angst, I can get behind it. On the scale of Hamlet and Faramir, tho, I'm staying safely to the side of Faramir. Because in addition to being emo, Hamlet was indecisive and overly-fatalistic. Although, had Faramir been in a Shakespearean Tragedy, he probably would have ended up accidentally killing Boromir, betraying Gondor to the enemy and actually being burned alive because Pippin wouldn't have gotten to him in time...
You know, I think Shakespeare would have defiantly been emo....
