Today is:

Stick Out Your Tongue Day
Major league baseball's first triple play happened on this day in 1909.
Flight Attendant Safety Professionals Day
New Friends Day

I like baseball. I love watching baseball games. The ballpark, the sun, the crowd... it's just fun.

I love the strategy that goes into baseball. Playing them short or long. Does the hitter pull to the right or the left? I love the fact that the catcher is such an important player, even though he doesn't get much recognition.

What I really like about baseball, though, is the fact that you can write down the entire game on the score card. And when you look at that score card, you can see the entire game. Every hit, every strike out, every error, everything about it. In your hand or in one binder, you can hold an entire baseball season in your hand. It's there, to relive any time you want.

Baseball has a certain neatness about it, but yet it's totally unpredictable. And, like most things in life, you get out of it what you bring into it.

Oh. And a totally unrelated point: I can't stick my tongue out, I'm almost tongue-tied.

When I was a kid I loved filling out the scorecard. My dad taught me and so, did it a few times so I could watch. His lines were so straight and his handwriting, even just single letters was so artistic that the page looked like Monet to me. When I did it, it was a bit more slovenly, but with no less fascination for the process. It was as you call it, being able to see the whole game in a few boxes on a half sheet of paper. Cool stuff.
