Today is:
National Junk Food Day
First Man on the Moon
National Tug-Of-War Tournament Day
National Creme Brulee Day
Canadian Railroad Birthday 1836
Cousins Day
Jesse James Train Robbery Day 1873
National Women's Hall of Fame Anniversary 1979
Coldest Day Ever Recorded (The lowest natural temperature (-128.6 degrees Fahrenheit) was recorded at Vostoke, Antarctica in 1983.)
Ok, I ask you: Do we really need a National Creme Brulee Day? I mean, I'm sure that not everyone knows what a Creme Brule is anyhow. And those of us who think that it's just a fancy way of saying "custard pudding" are left thinking why such a thing needs a whole day for itself anyhow. I mean, is there a Chocolate Mousse Day? Well, I suppose there could be. I may run into it in a post....
I remember the walk on the moon. NASA, of course, has a cool tribute. But I remember it. The puffs of dust that came up with the walk. I remember, not being awed, but being thrilled. As I am with any space flight. I miss the shuttle. I know people died, but we need to go into space again. People died in car crashes everyday and no one wants to ban driving.
I am thrilled about SpaceShipOne and I'm sure that civilian involvement in the space program will only lead to good things. Space travel has brought more advances in technology than any other enterprise... and that includes war. There are too many technologies and advances that came from the space program fot us to toss it away. Here's a site if you don't believe me.
I've got to find a way to work that site into a lesson plan. A little webquest around the NASA site, that should be a good technology lesson.
Of course, I also want to write up my Cowboy lesson plan. Not sure how that will work out, but I gotta try.
