The characterizations are terrible. And they all walk around in perpetual angst. None of them behave as the characters should. But what makes it so much worse is that the writing is good. The descriptions are sound and some of the imagery is very well done. The end result is just so jarringly bad.
They seem to happen all over the place, and sometimes even in the rpgs I'm part of. You can't turn away from the pretty wreckage and you have to see how it all turns out.
