OK, I did two things tonight that I know no one else reading this did.
Puff, the Wonderful Hamster, died today. So we buried the little critter next to the rose bush, where we buried Thor, Teke, Roo and Flash. Wow. Quite the little pet cemetary we have going there. Hopefully, Puff will like the company of three dogs and a cat. *grin* Myr handled it well and is planning on getting another hamster next week. So. Sad, but good.
When I called the folks to let them know the Puff had died, they told me to come over right away as we could help my dad drag his deer out of the woods! Yay, us. We can always use more venison. It was a big buck--not in horns, but in size and it was a good thing that my brother came along. Myr and I helped pull it out and then clean it when we got it home. I'll spare you all the graphic details. We're just taking part of the great circle of life, here.
The woods are a beautiful thing just around dusk. Didn't need a flashlight. The smell of the woods, with the damp leaves covering the ground, is intoxicating. Rocks and fallen trees are slippery in the wet ground cover, but the soft layer muffles your steps. We were ghosts, drifting through the trees, no more than shadows when separated by more than a few feet. There's not much better than that in this world.
