It's hunting season up here and the majority of the people hunt. In Myr's English class they had an assignment to finish a story. The story was about twin fawns that grew up in an orchard and the boy who lived by the orchard. He watched the deer grow up and one day, while hunting, he happens upon the twins. My was to finish the story.

I'll warn you, it's not a Disney ending--

The End to the Twin Story

He thought about the meat he could get from this deer and realized that he wouldn't get much and hunting season had just started. He could hunt again, just not in the orchard. So he clicked the safety on and the deer ran away. In a couple of days he went out in the in the woods and he saw a beautiful eight pointer. He clicked the safety off and shot. A perfect shot, right in the heart. And Jamie rejoiced. He gutted the deer and he kept the heart for his lucky pup. When he got out of the woods, he yelled to his family. They were all so happy for him.

Jamie's family made lots of venison sausage. The winter came and Jamie found himself in the orchard with corn. He dumped it and left, hoping the twins would find it and survive the winter.

The next fall he went out to the orchard and saw a buck, he bet that that was the one of the twins all grown up. This time he shot. It was not so good of a shot. It hit the buck low in the chest. So, Jamie went running home to get his dad to help him track it. Not far from the orchard, Jamie and his dad found the deer. When they ate the venison steak, it was the best Jamie ever had. He decided that he would forever on feed the deer corn in the orchard because he imagined that the stakes tasted as good to him as the corn did to the deer.

That's what I love best about my girl: She's got a firm grasp on reality and a pragmatic view of the world. She will do well.

Great story! Myr is such an amazing kid. One of these days I simply MUST meet you in person!!

May I share a fun story that I think will make you smile? When my eldest niece was about 3.5 years old we were playing at the outdoor playground of the Houston Children's Museum. They had all sorts of fun things there to play with, including a play house and jungle gyms and a long water-thingy with all sorts of toy boats and large and small rubber duckies to float down the "river". My niece fished out every single "small" rubber ducky from the river and pond and piled them all in a wheelbarrow, then, when she had them all, wheeled the barrow over to the play house and carefully placed all the duckies in the play oven to "cook" while she set the table. She then served the cooked ducks for supper and, "after supper" tidied them all away into the play refrigerator before continuing on with her next activities.

We were all so proud!! Somewhere I even have photos of the whole thing!! We left the duckies in the "fridge". Always wondered what the next kid to play in the house would think when they found them!

I always love it when kids have a realistic view of how the world works. She sounds adorable.

And we do have to get together. I think we can bribe [livejournal.com profile] finabair into putting up with us all. She usually accepts food and cleaning as a fair trade for staying at her place.
