Myr and I are re-watching Stargate and we are up to the episode "Point of View" where the alternate reality Sam and Kolwasky come through the quantum mirror.
I have a real problem with the thought that "ours is one of the few realities" that hasn't been taken over. See, if there are infinite numbers of alternate realities, then there would be an infinite number of realities where we weren't over-run, right? Granted, there would be an infinite number of realities where we were, and an infinite number where we never existed or found the stargate or whatever, but there would never be a limited number of realities where we won. It goes against the very theoretical basis of alternate realities.
I had this problem with Sliders, too. They had only one reality where the evil Kromags came from. Not possible. Alternate reality theory is based upon an infinite number of alternate realities. Infinite, in this case, being as far from only one as you can get. There will never be another reality exactly like another one, but there will be an unlimited number of almost like it.
In this ep, the alternate-reality Sam was married to alternate-reality Jack and, unfortunately, watched him die. She then shows up in our world and turns to our Jack for comfort when the loss overwhelms her. Now this always bothered me. This Jack is not her Jack and I always thought being that close to a person who looked exactly like the one you love and lost would end up making things worse. It would be a very painful reminder that you will never again have. Personally, I'd want to keep as far away from him as possible.
As Myr was watching the scene she goes "I don't think this would help any. He's not her Jack, after all. I think it would just make me sadder."
Hee. I just love it when she thinks like me.
