On the Stingray list I belong to we are currently discussing an episode where Ray helps out an inner-city principal as he tries to keep three teenagers from following a charismatic gang leader who had just be released from prison. Now it just so happens that all the main principles (principal, gang leader and kids) are all black. This is also an 80's show, so the "black gang" aspect is played up.
One of the people on the list wrote a summary of the show that had blatantly racist overtones. I hate drama. I hate being drawn into setup flame wars. I don't know the history of this person and whether she means what she writes or if she's just to stupid to know what is implied in what she says.
But I can't not say anything, can I? Hell, if I thought it was racist -- me, who assumes in-offense whenever possible -- it has to be stupidly obvious.
This is the only Stingray list in existence. I just hate to see it burn. Still, it would be worse to let it degrade into some sort of white supremacist propaganda. At least not without putting up a fight.
Like I said. I hate drama but I can't let evil prevail.
