In CSI:NY one of the actresses is pregnant. They aren't trying to hide the pregnancy, but they aren't writing it in, either. I haven't noticed that she's pregnant, but then I generally don't pay much mind to that sort of thing. She's not far enough a long for it to be really noticeable because my daughter surely would have noticed.

Anyhow, my question is this: is this a bad thing? I mean, that they are not addressing her pregnancy nor going out of their way to hide it?

I ask because while so many fans seem to feel that it is a terrible thing, I couldn't care less. I do know that they are planning on writing her out of some of the upcoming episodes so that she didn't have to film in the final stages of her pregnancy and so that she will get some maternity leave. But I see no need to write in the pregnancy if it's not part of story, nor do I think that they have to hide that fact that she is pregnant.

My answer needs a caveat. "Should" rather than "has to". I don't actually care, but if the idea of the show needs a suspension of disbelief, as in these people are actual characters rather than thespians giving a performance then physical changes of that magnitude need to be addressed; if for no other reason than to keep the viewer from constantly asking themselves and others "if I'm supposed to care about so and so, why would they keep her pregnancy a secret?" And "if this show is supposed to "simulate" some form of real life, which real life working situation do you know in which a person you work with would suddenly appear pregnant and no one would mention it?"

It's not a terrible thing, but imho I think you may be seeing it as a predjudicial thing against women when it's simply a common sense thing to me.

I have often been known to be overly sensitive about these things, as my poor husband often points out to me. *grin* I try to rein in my responses once I'm aware I'm over-reacting.

What bothers me about this situation is that the pregnancy isn't visible to the casual viewer. Sure, if you know the actress is pregnant and you look for it you can see some signs that that she's pregnant -- but that's already beyond the suspension of disbelief.

The show has done some things to minimize her screen time, it's just that they do occasionally film her so that you can see her stomach. Although I haven't managed to see any sign of pregnancy myself, there are others who are very upset that this is happening.

Since I don't pay much mind to what the characters are wearing and have no critical eye toward the style/appearance of the character, I tend not to notice such things.

And, obviously, I currently have a low tolerance for other people complaining about things I don't even notice. *grin*

Which actress is pregnant?

The one who plays Lindsey Monroe. She's due to go on leave soon, the next new eppy is supposed to reveal some big secret about her and prompt her departure from the show for a bit. I haven't any spoilers on what it could be but it's NOT that she's pregnant. *grin*

I'm not sure how I feel about Lindsey, to tell the truth. But I'm willing to see where they go with her character.
