Ok... so wanting to avoid any real work, I've been delving into the world of I-Man fanfic. Like all branches of fanfic, there's the bad and the ugly. A few good tossed in just to keep me looking. Yes, I am very hard to please when it comes to fanfic. I prefer my fanfic to resemble the shows and the characters. Most writers like to branch off into AU territory. My fault, really. It doesn't matter what I do, I make things difficult for myself.
I have, however, found some fics worth bookmarking.
The one that I'm most amused by is a I-Man/SG1/Sentinel cross-over called Actualize This. Now, I've read a lot of SG1/Sentinel cross-overs and they generally work well. Mostly because the character dynamics of Jack/Daniel and Jim/Blair are very similar. Since the Hobbes/Fawkes character dynamic is like none other in the world of fiction, however, I'm interested in seeing where they take this.
Still, right now the best part is the internal POV commentary on each of the characters. I get the feeling that the writer doesn't like the I-Man characters as well as she likes the others, but she's keeping them all in-character.
My favorite part so far: Jack's attempt to compare everyone to a character from The Simpsons. Heh. It's wonderful, really. Well, that and the fact that they are all at a "Self-Actualization Retreat for Couples". Because, you know, that would just tick most of them off right away. So far, it's amusing. Which is good.
Change in favorite part: Blair just accused Hobbes of being Vince Ricardo. That is a wonderful little in-joke for anyone who is a fan of the original In-Laws starring Peter Falk and Alan Arkin. I will sit here happily admitting that I am probably one of the few who really understands that reference. Ah. Happiness is having my own little geek world validated. Bobby Hobbes is actually just a little more nuts than Vince Ricardo, but not by much. Heh.
