So this is the end.
Nobody does it better than Jack Bauer and Chloe O'Brian.
The clock counted down, people. Down to zero. There is no more 24. It didn't need a "The End" It just flashed 00:00:00 and went to black.
There were no previouslies on the final episode. I hope this means they gave us a couple of extra minutes of show -- and let me tell you that last hour was the very best that 24 has to offer.
The ending was perfect. Jack managed to step back, slightly, from the darkside. He didn't murder Pillar and Chloe managed to talk him out of killing Suvorov. I would have accepted if the show would have went that far, but it would have ended the character for me. I can't root for the bad guys. I don't need my characters to be light and fluffy, but they need to have balance to them.
I loved Jack's internal conflict when faced with killing Pillar. That was the moment when Jack really chose his limits on how far he'd be willing to go. I like that Jack ultimately has a sense of justice and killing Pillar won't have been justice. I also like that Jack's justice, while couched in the personal, is always something bigger than just him. Assassinating Suvorov would have brought personal revenge, getting the evidence out would provide for larger scale justice.
Chloe absolutely rocked. Every scene with Jack was off the scales. Her and Jack's final goodbye was beautiful. I can't image Jack without Chloe and his comment that she was always the one to have his back, is completely true.
Once again, 24 managed to pull a character I didn't like (Arlo) into the side of good. 24 is all about actions and Arlo redeemed himself by backing up Chloe and helping solve it all. I'm easy that way: side with Team jack and your a good guy.
I like that Jack gets the chance to walk away. I know we've seen Jack do this before, but this is, after all, what Jack does. I admit that I unabashedly love the character. He doesn't have to morph into anything else, nor does he have to be saved.
I admit it, I lucked out on the ending of the show. It's exactly what I like. To me, it was the perfect finale.
