Got to see The A-Team movie today. I really enjoyed it. I'm a TAT fan from way back so I geeked out over references that no one else got. Granted you didn't need to get the references, but I was happy to see all the shout outs that were put in for the long-time fans.
The movie modified histories of the characters, but it needed to do that. You couldn't very well have these guys be Vietnam vets, but it stayed with the same story, just changed the details. What it did do really well was keep true to the spirit of the characters. Liam Neeson was a perfect Hannibal. I really liked Sharlto Copley in District 9 and he did a wonderful Murdock (who was always my favorite character). I don't have anything to complain about, really. The movie was exactly what I wanted -- full of everything that I love about the series.
Of course if you didn't like the original series, you'll probably hate the movie.
One thing I really loved in the movie was that it showed how the team got together in the first place. I mean, none of these characters really would have made it in the Army in the first place so they gave an explanation on how that happened. Plus they explained why BA is afraid of flying. And they showed how they escaped from prison the first time. Oh -- and they had great helicopter stunts, something the show had a lot of.
Was it believable? Who cares. This is the A-Team. Reality and believability were never necessary for me to enjoy the show. In fact, reality and believability would actually make the show (and the movie) much less fun.

Date: 2010-06-30 08:52 am (UTC)From:Sharlto did such a wonderful job of making Murdock not be loony (the way some fanfic writers want him to be) but someone who needs to be the way he is in order to cope.
And, not surprisingly most of the audience was female and over forty.
