Yeah. Day late. More than a dollar short.

Excessive clutter of last week's failures )

This week's goals:

Fanfic: Finish (completely) four scenes. Send them all off for beta. Yes. I know the damn thing is supposed to be done by Sat. I will have the first part ready by then. If they extend the deadline, I will be even more ready.

BreckenHaven: Finish scene for writers group. I'm half done. It's doable. I just need to sit down and do it.

Post LJ thoughts on Sawyer from Lost I've been meaning to email [livejournal.com profile] kitap and have a long discussion on the wonderfulness that is Sawyer. My email program hates me, so I'm going to do it in a post here on LJ.

Word Count Goal: 4000. I should reach that easy if I do all the writing I want. I will try to keep in mind that life around Christmas is not prime writing time. But these things are coming close to must dos.

Also: I'm gone all day tomorrow for my niece's graduation from modeling school. And no, we're not going to get into my thoughts on that. She is my brother's daughter and I love them both. I will support her in what ever it is she chooses to do. No matter how insanely insipid I think it may be.

There. Goal post! Three points!

Goal Post

No, it's not about football, this the post where I list my goals for the week. Just my writing goals.

Create a to do list
Not as dumb as it sounds. I needed a way to keep track of these goals. I've looked online for a program that would help me do this, but I hated everything I found. Either too complicated, too expensive or too buggy. So I took some time and made one in excel. That should work on my Mac and the school PCs. We'll see. I've never managed to have a long term relationship with a to do list.
DONE

Jackfic Fic-a-thon:
On the Jackfic list I said that I would write in the fic-a-thon. The fic is based on someone else's plot bunny and is due on the 18th. *Panic**Panic**Panic*
OK... it's not that bad. My problem is the bunny I was given was vague and restrictive at the same time. I have part of it figured out because the actual *plot* part was easy to write. The problem is having our good Colonel motivated to do what I have him doing in the plot.

Actual goals:

--> Establish motivation for Jack. Make it believable. I'm thinking this will need it's own separate post.
--> Write the fic. OK... I need 3/4 of the first draft done by next Friday. The fic is growing annoyingly large and I will have to write fast and cut lots to get it in by deadline.
--> Find a beta. I need someone to beta the thing for me.

BreckenHaven:
--> Finish first draft of scene with Bishop and Prentice. I need to have the scene completed by 12/14.

Word Count Goal
I'm toying with the idea of having a weekly word count goal. I hate word count goals because I rarely make them. But I'm thinking the "Words on paper" thing has worked for me before. I will need to see if I can make it work again.

First, I will need to find a baseline word count that I think I can live with. Heh. Lets say... 10 words a day? 100? Gads. If I think that a chapter/scene/part runs 2000 - 3000 words, I suppose I could do 6000 a week. That leaves me time to obsess on editing.

I haven't been posting lately, and there is a perfectly good explanation for that:

I have a lot on my mind.

Strange, but true.

The more I have to think about, the more topics there are that are stressing me out and capturing my attention, the less likely I am to write about them.

I know that's opposite of how the average person deals with things, but I've never been one to follow the crowd.

In which I ramble on about the strangeness that is me )

Now, to the point to this long winded ramble: I need a way to give myself deadlines. Deadlines that I will pay attention to. Or at least, deadlines that I will notice when I totally blow them.

I'm going to start small. I will post one goal every Friday that will need to be done by the following Friday. On Friday I will have a good idea of what my weekend will be like and can adjust my goals. Please feel free to ignore such ramblings.

I'm also going to try to post one post a week where I actually write down my thoughts on some subject. Because I do have thoughts and I should write them down.
