Soon I'm off to chaperon a middle school dance. Why, you may ask, are you voluntarily going to spend three hours with 500 eleven-, twelve- and thirteen-year-olds?

Simple. My daughter asked me.

In an age when most twelve-year-old kids can't wait to ditch their parents, mine wants me to go with her.

So I go. A small thing to make my daughter happy.

Also note:

I'm missing my Firefly tapes. It's all [livejournal.com profile] finabair's fault. You better be watching them, JennJenn!

Awwwww.

I loved and liked my mom like that; wanted her to come on all field trips. Didn't want to go to the dances myself though.

Well, actually it was more than just a dance. They also had these big inflatable slides and games, plus basketball hoops and the like. It was fun.

That's a really sweet story. I dont' have any kids, but I would like to think that my band kids and whatnot wouldn't mind stuffy ole me (LOL) hanging around them - but it happens.........

I'm sure that your kids would love to have you around. It's hard to judge teenagers, though. Especially middle schoolers, who seem to have brains of fluff.

It's best not tho think too much about it and be yourself. Kids respond to that best.

My mom chaperoned lots of my field trips in high school, and the best part was that when guys started asking me out, she already liked them, and that made everything much smoother.

I have to admit that knowing who my daughter associates with in a large group and how she treats people is one of the driving reasons for going along.

I firmly refuse to think about her dating. *grin*

They're not tapes. They're DVDs. :-P

And they ARE quite lovely. As is your relationship with your daughter. :-)

And you've always been a bit off. *HUGS*

You know, I reread that post and I thought that I should maybe edit it to make 'tapes' 'DVDs', but I thought that there would be no real reason to change it.

FYI: I take pride in being off.

You're lucky; Davey's in the "I don't know you! *Shun*" stage.

It might be a boy thing but, then again, Davey always did seem to be the kind to not want to associate with his parents -- and older sisters. Perhaps, too, Davey's a little to aware of the 'expected' behavior of kids. He's not quite secure enough to say "I'll do what I want".

Of course, Myr thrives on that "be who you want" thing. Makes for a hard life, sometimes.

In this case, I will just be glad that what she wants is me around.
