Soon I'm off to chaperon a middle school dance. Why, you may ask, are you voluntarily going to spend three hours with 500 eleven-, twelve- and thirteen-year-olds?

Simple. My daughter asked me.

In an age when most twelve-year-old kids can't wait to ditch their parents, mine wants me to go with her.

So I go. A small thing to make my daughter happy.

Also note:

I'm missing my Firefly tapes. It's all [livejournal.com profile] finabair's fault. You better be watching them, JennJenn!

My mom chaperoned lots of my field trips in high school, and the best part was that when guys started asking me out, she already liked them, and that made everything much smoother.

I have to admit that knowing who my daughter associates with in a large group and how she treats people is one of the driving reasons for going along.

I firmly refuse to think about her dating. *grin*
